    6. Stewie was a small, western harvest mouse. He had light brown hair, a big, dark brown stripe running down his back and pale blue eyes. One day while he was chomping on some delicious sunflower seeds, he peeked out of a small hole in the corner of his nest. He saw that the young oak tree had tumbled in the terrible storm the night before. What a storm, he remembered. The large clouds had come quickly and were a deep, dark grey. In Stewie's perspective, it was an ongoing shower. "How come I didn't hear it fall?" he wondered. He rummaged through the dry leaves that held his nest together. But then something shiny caught his eye; silver things always catch little mice's eyes. He quickly stood back pondering the thought of looking once more. He suddenly heard the sound of the crunching, old, autumn leaves as if someone was hiding underneath them. He slowly turned his head to see what was there. Something moved, and it wasn't silver. What had his mother always taught him? "Look before you leap!" she always said. But Stewie, who was a curious little mouse, took a leap towards the corner.   He thought he heard a rustle or maybe he was just imagining it., He crept cautiously towards the place where he thought he saw the shiny object. He heard a louder rustling, and he felt he was being watched. Was it just him, or was something really watching him? He crept closer and closer, but he saw nothing suspicious under the multi-coloured leaves. Maybe the shiny thing wasn't there at all. But nevertheless the brave little mouse crept closer to the leaves. He noticed a small round object suspended in midair. "What could that be?" Stewie wondered to himself as he leaned closer and picked up the item. As he bent over to pick it up, his senses told him not to. And his instinct was right- the shiny object was actually the eyes of an owl. The owl was waiting for the mouse to be his dinner. Stewie's fur stood on an end and he jumped back what he felt was at least a mile. (I don't understand this sentence, I'm not sure what to do with it...) But the owl was not stupid either. When he realized that Stewie noticed him there, he lunged forward to attack his prey. Stewie miraculously dodged the owl's beak and sprinted as fast as he could down damp leaves back to his "home." Only when he was safely in his home, he almost stopped moving. His heart was beating too fast. Stewie took a few deep breaths and slowly, his heart returned to its normal rate.   Stewie finally had the courage to look outside and see if the owl was still there. He quickly looked through the small hole in the corner of his nest and he saw nothing. Nothing was there. All of the small insects vanished, there were absolutly no mice or any other rodent and the owl was gone. Could this be a bad sign that no one is here, Stewie thought to himself. He didn't know what to do. Should Stewie take the chance and leave his nest or would he rather be safe than sorry? At this point, Stewie was terrified enough just to lie down in a warm corner in his nest; but his plans didn't last long. Stewie heared a very loud sound. This sound was similar to the loud beat of a giant drum. This beat was so loud that it shook the ground. The sound was increasing by the second. Stewie knew that someone or something was comming his way.

Commenting

Stories show something happening, they don't tell about it.

Some suggestions for your comments:

"he bolted in a panic".......can become......"nostrils flaring, hackles spiked, teeth bared, eyes starting...."

"he felt nervous".........can become.............."his heart thumped like a hammer...he felt jumpy and twisted up inside....a thousand drummers were pounding away on his head..."

He snapped his long tail angrily.........can become..............."raising his muzzle and bearing his teeth, he snapped his long tail.."

While he was chomping on some sunflower seeds he peeked out of the (change 'the' to HIS) small hole in the corner of the nest. He saw that the young oak tree had tumbled in the storm in (take out IN) the night before. What a storm, he remembered. The clouds had come quickly and were a deep dark grey. In Stewie's perspective it was an on going shower.
